Biggest Mistakes in Hiring Cheap Offshore Freelancers
- Thinking Cheaper Will Save You Money
I once hired a guy from India to do photorealistic renderings plus a video walkthrough for $80. This would be $800 worth of work in-house. His profile on Fiverr had no feedback or ratings, but I thought, it’s only $80, what could go wrong? There were a multitude of issues with this contract. While he was a very nice person and genuinely wanted to complete the job, his laptop was not sufficient to produce the renderings, and he missed 4 deadlines. We ended up paying him $40 for his trouble, even though he had to walk away from the job. I am not the type of person to dole out 1-star reviews, so I opted for not giving any feedback.
2. Your Freelancer is Learning on Your Project
When someone says they know Photoshop, Lumion, Chief Architect, etc, sometimes they mean, “I will figure out how to use it on your project.” Knowing the software myself, I could not believe people would use the “example projects” for their portfolio. These are templates given in the startup window for the various software. This tells me they never worked with the software before or are not willing to put the effort in to build a portfolio.
3. Your Freelancer Has Cheap Equipment or Pirated Software
