Common Reasons People Have Bad Mushroom Trips

Out of over 10 mushroom trips, I’ve only had one bad trip. I’ve also had trips that went “almost wrong” but was able to recover the situation. The following are reasons you might have a bad mushroom trip:

City Apartment Setting

My first and only bad mushroom trip was in a downtown city apartment. The noise of the street plus the noise of neighbors made me unnecessarily paranoid. There is something about the presence of trees that calms your mind when you’re tripping on mushrooms. Being alienated from nature is a recipe for a trip going downhill. Being indoors is ideal if it starts raining or you want to lay down, but a peaceful rural setting is the way to go.

You are a Bad Person

Your ego protects you from the bad things you have done to other people. You rationalize it away and dismiss it as “your old self.” When you take mushrooms, you will feel all the times you let people down in your life. And you will feel how they felt in that situation.
