Crafting That Perfect Title: My Comprehensive Checklist
An “excellent” article with a “good” title will rarely get read
I’m writing this in response to all the excellent articles I’ve read recently with only “good” titles. I tend to read articles in volume on certain topics, regardless if the title is engaging or not. But if I’m venturing outside my own niche, I won’t just click on any article unless I’m familiar with the author (or the title is super compelling).
I used to barely pay attention to the titles, treating them more like an inconvenience. But I soon realized that there is just as much craft in the title as there is in the article itself.
I’ve found that even the smallest tweaks to titles can have astronomical results in engagement. Of course, you still have to deliver on the value in your article. If you disappoint your audience with an excellent title in front of an okay article, they won’t come back.
I made this comprehensive checklist that shows my exact process for crafting that perfect title.
Does your title have a specific dollar amount?
An example would be, “I sold $5,000 in online courses in my first month.”
