My New Clients Only Valued Me on Price
This was an extremely difficult hurdle to jump over. I knew I was the best floor plan designer out there, but the client just wanted a cheap freelancer. Clients would try and haggle me over $50 on a $1,000 job. At that point, that extra $50 was just a power play. Once I built a portfolio and credibility in my space, I could finally land clients that valued my service. This took almost a year.
No One is Fighting for You
Stable jobs get a lot of criticism, but what they do well is having a support team for every problem you might run into. Humans are social creatures, and the lack of camaraderie slowly wore me down. When I landed a new client, there was no one to be excited for me. There were no 15 minute conversations with my boss in the morning, which I greatly enjoyed. I spent a lot of time living in my head between projects.
