I'm visiting LA right now working on my writing, and I know what you're talking about. It's purposeless to sacrifice your life to print money, only to buy a lonely patch of suburban grass. All for what, external validation? The sunshine and inspiration are glorious though, when you're not attached to it. It sounds like you've found an intrinsically satisfying life.
