In this article, I will skip the most obvious well known tips, and talk only about what I discovered from personal experience.

Dressing Nicely for Immigration Officers

What does it say about yourself when you show up for customs in a raggedy T shirt and shorts? Even worse, a hat or wearing a backpack. It tells the immigration officer that you a bum and a perpetual tourist! I know flights are uncomfortable. But dressing in business attire opens you up to less scrutiny at customs. Businesspeople always get treated better. I remember when I entered Curaçao peak Covid, and you needed a whole folder of paperwork to enter. My PCR test was the only one I could find in Miami, and I was not sure that the immigration officers would accept it. The person in line in front of me got denied entry. And then I walked up in my long sleeve business shirt despite it being 90 degrees out. After a quick glance of my paperwork, the officer waived me through. It’s okay to look like a bum once you get to the beach, but dress smartly for customs.
