The Case for Ignoring the “Real You” When Traveling

How you see yourself is programmed by past experiences. To grow and enrich your perspective, you have to immerse yourself in experiences that you wouldn’t typically do. Travel is the perfect opportunity to take these risks. Some people only go to Caribbean beaches. Others only go to party destinations. Some like to go to more outdoorsy adventure destinations. If you are locked down by roots at home, your holiday choice might be your best chance to enrich your world view.

It’s Not About “Off The Beaten Path” vs “Tourist Traps”

Some so called “tourist traps” are definitely worth visiting. Not visiting a place because it is perceived as a tourist trap is very self limiting. The world has already been explored many times over. Going off the beaten path doesn’t necessarily make it a unique experience. What makes it a unique experience is something that YOU wouldn’t normally do.

Your Travel Style Cements Your Perspective

If you’re always going to European cities, over time, each new one is not going to change your perspective.
