This is very true. I also find books to be the most vocabulary-dense resources. They're also better than podcasts, because the author has the advantage of time to carefully craft their words, while podcasters are outputing the language on the spot.
You're also lucky that the written form of English is quite similar to spoken English. Of course the grammatically correct "Mom and I" has been defacto replaced by "me and Mom" in spoken English.
