Why I stopped learning languages in the morning

I used to think learning languages in the morning was a good idea. My mind is very active in the morning, and I’m not doing anything else during my morning commute. Why not use all this dead time to get more Finnish listening time in?

My morning language routine used to look like this: I would start my 30-minute walk to work with either a Finnish podcast or Finnish Harry Potter in my headphones. As I was navigating the streets, I would tune my brain in to the Finnish universe. I would see a blooming city tree in real life, while Hagrid was breaking down the hut door on the rocks in the Finnish magical world. Then just before opening the office door, I would take out my headphones.

Immediately, the English speaking world confronted me. My coworkers said good morning, and I had to switch language universes all at once. I hadn’t taken the mental time to adjust for the plan of attack for the day. I didn’t have any time to get into the right headspace. There was no time left to manifest positivity. I was already at work.

Those first 2 hours in the morning before work are 100% yours. For me, this is the best time to strategize and fine-tune my life trajectory. Am I still on track to accomplish my goals? Are there any habits I can change? I always have the best ideas of my life during my morning commute, especially…
