Why Travelers are No Longer Gaining Social Status

After seeing so many “why aren’t people reading my travel articles” stories, I decided to weigh in on this dilemma.

Pre Remote Work, it Used to be Very Hard to Finance Travel

You either had to be independently wealthy or have a job that allowed you to travel. Most people only got a 2-week vacation per year. If you were time rich enough to travel, people assumed you were somebody. Now that anyone can take a laptop to a white sand beach, travel is no longer impressive. With the barrier to entry gone, there is no longer any social status associated with travel. Travelers have to try much harder to distinguish themselves from the masses.

Travelers are Not Committed Enough

There is a lot of paperwork, government bureaucracy, and income requirements to formally immigrate to a foreign country. If you are willing to go to great lengths to do this, there is a huge market of people wanting to move to your new country. You could be the person with boots on the ground advising on best neighborhoods, how to immigrate, and common pitfalls. There is a high barrier to entry to moving abroad permanently, so influence and social status can be gained in this market.

Travelers Want to Be Comfortable
